Where I started

Before marketing, I worked in what we call in Costa Rica “corporate America”: US companies that build teams here. Costa Rica has a large English-speaking workforce, a short flight from the US and nearly the same time zone, which makes it a natural fit. I worked in tech for a large US company and managed a team of 70 to 80 people.

It was a good job. But in 2020 I kept asking myself what was next. I wanted to build something bigger and better. I wanted my time back and the freedom to work on my own terms.

Finding affiliate marketing

I started looking for what to do. My first venture didn’t work. Neither did the second. The third one did. I took a course on affiliate marketing and started running ads on Facebook. Results were so-so, and Facebook ad accounts go down quickly.

Then I moved to YouTube, and that was the breakthrough. I started running YouTube campaigns in 2020, earned the ClickBank Platinum award in 2021 and ClickBank Diamond in 2023. I’ve received several ClickBank awards since then.

Adding performance marketing

Marketing moves in waves. To handle the ups and downs, I paired affiliate marketing with performance marketing: mostly lead generation, plus pay-per-call, which has been very good to me. When one side is in a down cycle, the other is often working. That balance takes a lot of the frustration out of the swings. Today I run this through my company, Lekito Marketing.

Proudly Costa Rican

Not many people from Costa Rica, or from Latin America, work in this industry at this level. So every time I introduce myself at a conference, it’s a proud moment. The carreta wheel across this site, Costa Rica’s hand-painted oxcart, is my way of bringing that pride with me: tradition and craft on one side, tech and data on the other.

Outside the ad accounts

I swim, a lot. It’s where I relax and where most of my ideas come from. Here’s why. And there’s Kito, my dog, who goes pretty much everywhere I go. He’s the one in the photo, keeping an eye on the Diamond award.
